Ubersuggest is Wrong!

I said it.  Ubersuggest is wrong!

Neil Patel did a great job designing Ubersuggest; and it is an interesting SEO tool for the purpose of collecting data.

However; Ubersuggest’s level of precision is limited, for the following reasons:

  1. Ubersuggest Doesn’t measure data in Real-Time
  2. Ubersuggest doesn’t rely on a 100% complete data-set for previous months (my understanding is that complete information is only available to google)
  3. Ubersuggest is a work-in-progress according to Neil Patel
  4. The same goes for any tool that gives you information regarding the number of keywords that any website is ranking for; (unless you manually enter the keywords)

Please stop using ubersuggest as a one-stop-shop for all of your SEO requirements, because you are missing the big picture.

Let’s take a look at the Ubersuggest analysis for SEOCOW.com:

According to Google Search Console,  SEOCOW.com has ranked for 1,000 “Search Queries” within the last 3 months.  However; Google Search console is limited to 1,000 “Search Queries.”  Here is a

What’s the difference between a “Search Query” and a keyword?

The answer is: “Not Much.”   A keyword is a buzz-term that describes the number of phrases which your website would show for on google search.  A search query is the search term which the end user types into google search.  Its almost “The Exact Same Thing.”

SEMRUSH Allows you to manually identify a larger and more specific set of keywords:

As you can see here, SEMRush identifies 977 keywords which SEOCOW.com is currently ranking for.  I have supplied this list of keywords based on a quick analysis.  Surely, there are probably a few keywords which I haven’t identified, so perhaps the overall number is closer to 1,000 or even over 1,000 keywords.

The verdict:

Ubersuggest is a great tool for collecting information of competitors, as long as the competitors have some ranking history.

However; when it comes to keyword research for Professional Grade and Enterprise Level SEO Services (or any business who would like to see maximum results)- you need to rely on a keyword research tool that allows for manual submission of a large number of user identified keywords.  Most advanced tools such as SEMrush and AHREFS will allow you to submit a keyword list (usually several hundred or more keywords).  Most of these keywords should be accumulated using google search console, google analytics as competitor research.

Neil Patel has announced a newer version of Ubersuggest, with more features which should be coming out in the near future:

”  I look forward to providing a more in-depth analysis of the new version as well- https://neilpatel.com/blog/ubersuggest-2-0/ “
